Russian architect Sergey Skuratov chose Centrsvet for his country house.
The sounder and creative leader of Sergey Skuratov Architects, member of the Russian Union of Architects, member of the board of the Union of Moscow Architects, member of Council on Tall Buildings in the US and in Canada, professor and academician at the International Academy of Architecture (IAA), professor at Moscow Architectural Institute and MARCH Architecture School.
He is famous for Copper House and the Mosfilm Tower residential complexes, both of which have become landmarks in Russian architecture. Since its foundation in 2002, the architecture firm has completed over 40 original projects: from urban complexes to public buildings and private residences.
This house was designed for Sergey Skuratov's big family. Three generations at once will live there, this is why it was important to consider the opinion of all family members.
The architect's favorite facade material is brick. It makes the house attractive and unusual; besides the facade, the pitched roof is also made of brick. The facade and the shape of the house are very simple and very complicated at the same time.
This "Castle" looks brutal on the outside, but on the inside the house is very warm. There is a lot of wood and white walls. A part of the facade is cladded with black metal. A well-done interior must be a continuation of exterior, this is why the interior has black metal and wood as well.
The principle of being an extension the exterior applies to the terrain as well: a part of the living-room is 45 cm lower than the dining room, the kitchen and the library. It was done on purpose, because the house follows the shape of the terrain, and there is a difference in heights which allows to create zoning and follow the existing terrain closely.
The shades of artificial light, warm and cold, are very important for the interior of the house. It is important to understand the concept as a whole: what needs to be illuminated, and what doesn't, which lighting does this or that zone call for – functional or utilitarian. The lighting in the interior is very unobtrusive so that you do not notice it, as if it does not exist.
The lighting equipment at the house is black and white. The main contrast is black metal and white walls, this is why some of the luminaires are white and some are black. In some places INFINITY track lighting is deliberately positioned openly, and in some places it is recessed.
"CENTRSVET was very helpful during the process of creating the interior of our house. I am very grateful towards the company because we have changed a lot of things in the working process, we experimented, played with capacities and types of lighting. This story was, as any other construction is, very complicated and many-stage."
